Seymour Krelborn works in Mushnik’s Flower Store on Skid Row, alongside Audrey, the girl he secretly adores. Business is so bad that Mr Mushnik agrees to showcase the plant that mysteriously appeared to Seymour. Customers start flocking to admire it and buy up all of Mushnik’s stock. Sales continue to improve but one night, Seymour discovers the dark secret behind the plant’s fantastic powers; it wants blood, the fresher the better, and lots of it.

Strolling minstrel Nanki-Poo loves Yum-Yum, who is betrothed to her guardian, Ko-Ko, newly promoted Lord High Executioner.
Ko-Ko is in trouble with the Mikado for failing to perform any executions, so when Nanki-Poo attempts suicide, Ko-Ko does a deal with him to allow him to marry Yum-Yum, so long as he agrees to be executed in a month’s time. Music & mayhem from Gilbert & Sullivan.
