President: Barbara Johnson
I have been a member of ROS for fifty-five years. During that time, I have
been Wardrobe Mistress, Librarian, assistant pianist, Vice Chairman,
Chairman, Producer - all of these while still taking an active part in
productions. Latterly, I have hung up my greasepaint and am currently in
the position of President.
This
does not mean I am taking a back seat - far from it! I like to keep my
finger on the pulse!
I can
thoroughly recommend amateur dramatics and operatics
as a very rewarding past-time.

Vice-President: Malcolm Unwin
After
beginning the amateur stage journey in Leeds,
way back, I discovered Ruislip Operatic Society
(as it was) in 1973 after 2 years in the wilderness of Northamptonshire.
Auditions with a then larger society resulted in an offer to be included on
a waiting list.
A more welcoming meeting with the committee at Ruislip
was the start of a long and very fulfilling experience both on and off the
stage. Performing lead to committee and that lead to Chairman (twice).
Being a part of the membership and then a member of the committee is a good
way to find out what really makes a group tick. I can recommend it –
especially at ROS.
The name change to ROS, a new culture and more recently the formation of
the ROS StageWorks workshop for young people, are
memorable milestones.
The old adage that you get back more by putting more in is a true maxim!

Chairman: Susan Maycraft
I
joined ROS as a performing member in 1992 for my first production, Fiddler
on the Roof. I have been in most productions since then as a performer and
helping out as Dance Captain. I have been a member of the committee since
2002, first as the Minutes' Secretary and then as a committee member. I
feel happy to be able to put something back into the society by being a
part of the committee. I love being a part of a really friendly society and
have made a lot of good friends at ROS.

Vice-Chairman: Alan Bailey
I have
been with ROS for 21 years and have enjoyed - to a lesser or greater extent
- all of its aspects, from ‘on stage’ to social activities. The family
atmosphere makes it really quite special. As well as being on stage I have
tried to put a little bit back through working behind the scenes and at
committee level. My hope is that ROS will blossom for many years to come
and I am happy to do my bit.

Secretary: Helen Bailey
I
joined ROS in 1984 and have been involved in every production since then,
mostly as a performer, but also as prompt, backstage helper or Director.
For many years I have served on the committee, undertaking duties as
Secretary, Social Secretary, Press & Publicity Officer and Committee
Member. The committee does vital hard work, but I'm happy to be involved
and put time and effort back into a Society that has given me so much
enjoyment. I hope ROS continues to achieve high professional standards,
without losing any of its friendly and engaging atmosphere, for another 80
plus years.

Minutes Secretary: Wendy Luck
I
joined ROS in May 2004 and was immediately impressed by the friendly
atmosphere and professional attitude of the members. I have taken part in
three shows so far and am now working on the fourth, all of which have been
hard work, but very enjoyable.
I am very conscious that there is a great deal of work to be done behind
the scenes as well and am often found with a paintbrush in my hand during
set painting sessions (nobody's told me what to do with it yet though!). I
became Minutes Secretary in May 2005.

Treasurer: David Bendall
I was invited to join the tenor
chorus for Gipsy Baron in April 1978, and then to play Ali Hakim in
Oklahoma! in 1979. I became a member and have since appeared in 31 other
shows for ROS, in roles including Jupiter, Alfred Doolittle, Herr Schultz, Ko-Ko and the Duke of Plaza-Toro. I have also appeared
in 26 shows for other companies. In 1990 I was elected Treasurer of the
Society, a post I still hold.

|
Business Manager: Wendy Godwin
My
daughter Helen joined ROS in 1995 as a part of the recruitment drive before
42nd Street.
I enjoyed looking for costume items for her and was asked to help with
sewing for BOB1 in 1995 . Since then I have been Costume Manager for a
variety of shows as well as Business Manager - trying to make ends meet in
both activities!

Publicity Manager: Oliver Spinks
I
became a member of ROS about 6 years ago and have been a member of the
committee for 3 years. I chose to become a member of the committee in order
to contribute to the continuing success of the society. I feel it is important
to give back some of what you take.
|
|
Social Secretary: Andrea Bright
I joined ROS
in 2003 and have been a chorus member in every show since. I filled the
post of Librarian for a year and now act as Social Secretary. My Christmas
parties are theme-based – Hollywood, Chart-Toppers, Heroes & Villains –
and great fun to organise. I hope I can continue
to arrange enjoyable events for ROS Members and Friends.

Committee Member: Jackie Quaif
I first got
involved with ROS as “call girl” for The Gondoliers in 1992. I followed this with backstage for
Fiddler on the Roof before heeding the call to go onstage in 1994 in A
Chorus of Disapproval. I had so much
fun in rehearsals for that show including beating up my co-star that I
haven’t looked back.

Membership Secretary: Alison Coe
I have
been a member of ROS for 14 years and was the Social Secretary for 13 of
those years. Recently I took on the job of Membership Secretary. I have
performed as a chorus member for most shows, but have taken a couple of
principal roles too. For a few shows I have played my part offstage as
Production Secretary or Backstage Crew Member.

Friends Secretary: Sheila Rawles
A member for some years now, I look
after the Friends of ROS, answering queries and keeping everyone informed
of show news and social events.
|
|
Mailing List Secretary: Heather Darby
I
joined the Society in 1979, my first show being Oklahoma!, and straight away was made to
feel really welcome. I thoroughly enjoyed performing, although I have been
in office for most of the years since then, as Members' Secretary, and
Secretary for two periods of three and 11 years. I became Chairman four
years ago and, although not now performing in shows, still love the
atmosphere surrounding both rehearsals and performances. Having now stepped
down from that role, I will enjoy the position of Mailing List Secretary.

|
Press Officer: Shirley Wootten
Joining
ROS in 1996, I took on the role of Press Officer a couple of years later.
In addition to seeing that the Society and its productions receive their
fair share of local press coverage, I edit the ROS quarterly newsletter,
Tempo.
|
|
Librarian: Caroline Bronne-Shanbury
I
ensure that the right numbers of libretti and scores are available at the
start of rehearsals for each new production. I then have the much more
difficult task of chasing the cast to return all borrowed books by the end
of show week.
